November 18th Webinar
Videos, Slide Shows and Materials
After three years of work, completion of the Three Nations Energy (3NE) Solar Farm was celebrated on November 17, 2020 at a small outdoor “COVID safe” event. The next day featured a Virtual Gathering Webinar attended by local community members and green energy practitioners, other First Nations, educators, and some media. The Athabasca Chipewyan and Mikisew Cree First Nations and Fort Chipewyan Métis and are equal partners in 3NE and own 100% of the 2.2 MW solar project. When added to the adjacent 0.6MW solar farm built last year by ATCO this will displace over 25 per cent of the community’s annual diesel power generation with clean solar energy. Alberta and Canada both contributed towards 3NE’s share of capital costs and ATCO served as General Contractor and development partner.
The event featured prayers and drummers from all three nations and messages from:
Seamus O’Regan, federal Minister of Natural Resources • Rick Wilson, Alberta Minister of Indigenous Affairs
Nancy Southern, Chair and CEO of ATCO
Chief Allan Adam, Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation • Chief Peter Powder, Mikisew Cree First Nation
Blue Eyes Simpson, Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation
