The firewood processor arrived on the barge on Sunday, July 19th and was shipped directly to the 3NE solar farm for set up.
On Monday, July 20th they processed about 7.5 cords of wood and on Tuesday, July 21st they processed about 12 cords. Half of the cordwood will be donated to the three Nations and the remainder will be sold in the community. So far, donated wood has gone to Metis Elders and to Dore Lake Campground. With over 200 cords of salvage wood to process at the solar farm, the crews will be busy for a few weeks!
The long term vision is to create a firewood business that uses local labour, sells locally and helps the local economy.
